After an accident kills her family, Spirit White is sent to Oakhurst Academy, a Montana school and orphanage her parents once attended. Its students have magical powers, although Spirit’s own ability has not appeared. She finds friends among Burke, Loch, Muirin, and Addie, then notices students vanishing under circumstances the school tries to conceal. Spirit and her friends investigate who—or what—is stalking Oakhurst before another of them becomes a victim.
