The Dark Tower Universe
The Dark Tower connects many of Stephen King’s fictional settings, but most related novels remain independent reading choices. Begin the main quest with The Gunslinger and follow its seven numbered books. Connected stories and The Wind Through the Keyhole offer optional expansion. This universe map helps identify relationships; the dedicated reading-order pages explain sequences and possible spoilers.

The Dark Tower
The Dark Tower follows Roland Deschain and his companions through a setting that combines fantasy, western and horror. The seven numbered novels form the main quest. For a first reading, follow their publication sequence and return to The Wind Through the Keyhole afterwards. That later companion fits between volumes four and five in the main journey, offering an alternative for rereads. Connections to other King books enrich the setting but are not prerequisites for the core story.

The Talisman and Black House follow Jack Sawyer at different stages of his life. Stephen King and Peter Straub co-wrote both released novels. Begin with The Talisman before continuing to Black House; connections with The Dark Tower add background but do not make Jack’s first adventure dependent on the whole Tower sequence. Other Worlds Than These is announced for 6 October 2026 and is not yet included as a released volume.
