Heirs of Alexandria
Heirs of Alexandria is an alternate history fantasy series by Mercedes Lackey, Eric Flint, and Dave Freer. Its history diverges when Hypatia preserves the Library of Alexandria and functional magic shapes European religion and politics. The novels follow rival powers and recurring characters through Renaissance Venice and beyond, where supernatural forces affect wars, diplomacy, and family loyalties. Start with The Shadow of the Lion, then continue through the coauthored books in publication order. A Mankind Witch is a companion novel by Dave Freer alone, placed between the first two coauthored novels; it can be read as an optional side route.
